Having been often asked to describe the home and every-day life Of Westerners living in the far East, I have tried to depict faithfully some of the real experiences of a real boy and his fam ily and friends living in Korea. At the same time I have woven in much of the home life of the natives and descriptions of many of their customs with regard to birth, death, marriage, religion, holidays, etc., contrasting them with ours.
The family of whom I have written were per haps more favoured than many, living as they did in the interesting capital of a most interest ing country, and their trials were few, and such as they were have not been enlarged upon. Hoping this book may serve to show the con trast, between the family of a happy little western boy, and the poor children born in the dark, so that the hearts of the readers may ask, How can this be changed? And What can I do about it? It is given to the public.
