There are six prominent tonsils. In the back of the mouth there are three; one on each sidewall,. Named the faucial, and one on the back of the tongue, named the tongue tonsil. Behind the nasal passages there are three; one attached to the roof, named the pharyngeal; and one surrounding the orifice of each Eustachian tube, named the tubal. These six, connected by lymphatic canals, are known as Waldeyer''s lymphatic ring. (9) Connected with this ring, there is another, formed of smaller but similar bodies (lymph nodes) and yet beyond this secondary ring, there are countless thousands of still smaller bodies (lymph nodules), scattered about in and underneath the lining mem branes of the mouth and the parts behind the nasal pass ages (9, 87)
