Description
The prize was this year awarded to my essay upon the subject Thomas Carlyle and John Stuart Mill and in compliance with the regula tions I now commit it to the press. I have noreason to suppose that it will escape the fate cf most other prize essays, unless perchance the supe rior humanity of the subject may attract a notice which its treatment will hardly justify.
