Description
Excerpt from The Wessex of Thomas Hardy
For obvious reasons, the writer has desired to take his readers to the scenes of the novels, and, when arrived there, to allow Mr. Hardy to describe them himself. Thus the pictures which he has given in his books have been freely quoted here. Of the unquoted remainder, the writer can only say to those readers who are unacquainted with the novels, if any such he may chance to have, Pu/cbm gaze videntur, longé pulcherrima guae ignorantur.
