Sclater, Secretary of the Zoological Society, not only selected Mr. Doggett to accompany my expedition, but constantly assisted me with his valuable advice in the matter of making collections. Sir Thomas Sanderson and Sir Clement Hill, of the Foreign Office, have kindly corrected the chapters on history and the Special Commission. The authorities of the Uganda Railway and Mr. D. J. Wilson, of Mombasa, should be thanked for the care they took to transport safely to England all my scientific collections.
