Description
Excerpt from The Trait Book
In the study of human heredity it has first of all to be recognized that progress will be made only as traits are studied one at a time. The modern science of heredity, indeed, seeks as the element of study the unit character. What are unit characters can, however, be told only by breeding experiments in which the true units reveal them selves as relatively, ii not absolutely, constant, unalterable, indivisible things. On the other hand, many apparently simple traits are shown by hybridization or the mating of unlike parents, to be complexes of unit characters. The first step in the resolution of human traits is, then, a primary rough analysis into fairly simple traits and, secondly, the study of the behavior of these traits in heredity. It is the purpose of this list to afford a list based on such a rough analysis.
