The Great Leaders'' Lives aims to meet the needs of moral and religious secondary education. Adolescence is pre-eminently the period of Ideal ism. The na''1''ve obedience to authority character istic of childhood is to a large extent supplanted at this time by self-initiative;-by self-determina tion in accordance With ideals adopted or framed by the individual himself. Furthermore, the ideals of this period are concrete rather than abstract. They are embodied in individual lives, and, gen erally, in lives of action. Hence biographies of great leaders appeal strongly to the adolescent. They furnish examples and stimulus for conduct along the higher lines. The Great Leaders'' Lives Will include a large number of volumes de voted to the study of some of the greatest moral and Spiritual leaders of the race. Although de signed primarily for use in the class-room, they Will serve admirably the purposes of a general course of reading in biography for youth.
