The information which will be found in this book about the romantic adventures - now farcical, sometimes comic, often tragic - oi the Emperor francis-joseph, the Empress Elisabeth, and the Habsburg family, is for the most part unpublished up to now, and unknown, or very little known. It was collected and was communicated to me by a person in Austria particularly well informed about the Court of Vienna. I should have preferred that this person''s name appeared on the cover of the book beside my own. That, however, has been strictly forbidden. I can only take the Opportunity here of expressing publicly my in debtedness to my anonymous collaborator.
