Description
Igneous outcrops occur in Pulaski, Saline, Hot Springs, Montgomery, Pike and Sevier counties, and there is good reason for believing these igneous rocks are continuous beneath the drainage of the country. Another axis of disturbance shows a granitic out-crop on Spavinaw Creek in the Cherokee country, west of Benton county. The stratified rocks of Arkansas probably rest at no great depth upon an igneous platform.
In northern Arkansas the disturbance shows itself in small faults, gentle folds, and slightly indurated shales; but as you approach the granitic axis, greater faults, strata with high dip, and talcose slates intersected with quartz and calcite veins become common. These disturbances are intimately connected with, and determined the character of the mineral deposits of the State.
