Excerpt from The Mercantile System, and Its Historical Significance: Illustrated Chiefly From Prussian History, Being a Chapter From the Studien Ueber Die Wirthschaftliche Die Friedrichs Des Grossen, 1884
For the convenience of readers, a list of the territorial possessions of the House of Hohenzollern in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries has been added in Appendix II., and their geographical position has been indicated on the map at the end of the volume. And since the author's illustrations of his general thesis are taken chie?y from German and Prussian history, a number of notes have been added throughout to explain technical expressions and sug gest English parallels. The view of the eighteenth century taken by the author should be compared with that of the late Sir John Seeley, in le Expansion of England.
