Description
N preparing the memoirs of the Hon. Ber nice Pauahi Bishop there have been many difficulties to contend with. The most irre parable have been the loss of invaluable cor respondence and the death of friends who were intimately associated with Mrs. Bishop in childhood, girlhood, and in her later years. A short time previous to the destruction of San Francisco a great number of her letters had been collected and carefully filed by her cousin, Mrs. W. F. Allen of Honolulu. These were sent to Mr. Bishop, in San Francisco, and were consumed in the burning of the hotel where he resided.
