The writer, having had exceptional opportunities of observing and studying the various details of marine turbine construction, has, in response to the growing demand for a work giving practical notes and sketches of this latest development of marine engineering, issued the present little work, and hopes it may fulfil to some ex tent the requirements of those anxious to obtain practical information regarding the Parsons marine steam turbine.
With few exceptions, the original sketches which illus trate the text were made by the author from the various working parts of actual turbines under construction, and can therefore be relied upon as being correct.
