The Light Beneath the Cliff

A forgotten railway. A signal that should be dead. And a light beneath the cliff that refuses to disappear.

The trail from Aarhus Bay leads Anneli Hartman and Mr. Winter north, towards Denmark's rugged coast.

There, a railway long believed abandoned still bears signs of use. Lamps flash where no one should be working. Hidden machinery continues to operate beneath the cliffs.

Someone has kept the old system alive.

And someone does not want it discovered.

Anneli has learned that the smallest discrepancy can expose the greatest secret. But as their investigation leads deeper into forgotten workshops, concealed passages and dangerous experiments, the evidence begins to suggest something far larger than the mystery they thought they were solving.

Winter recognises more than he explains.

His knowledge could save them. His silence could put them both in danger.

And for Anneli, the most troubling question is no longer simply what lies beneath the cliff — but how much of the truth the man beside her has chosen to withhold.

The closer they come to uncovering the hidden system, the more their partnership is tested. Attraction cannot replace honesty. Trust cannot survive on unanswered questions alone.

Somewhere beneath the cliffs, the machinery is still working.

But who is keeping it alive — and what will happen when its secrets are finally exposed?

The Light Beneath the Cliff is Book Two of The Hidden Lines of Light, an atmospheric historical mystery trilogy set in an imagined Denmark of forgotten railways, ingenious optical inventions, buried secrets and dangerous discoveries.

The mystery continues directly from The Light Over the Bay and leads towards the trilogy's conclusion in The Sun Furnace.
