The whole prefatory history of Jesus, in the form in which it lies before us in the Gospels, assuming the historical notices of his domestication in Nazareth, his subsequent relation to John the Baptist, his own name, and perhaps also the names of his parents, was developed from the Simple proposition of the new faith, that Jesus was the Messiah.
Jesus was the Messiah, i. E. The Son of David, the Son of God, the second Moses, the last, greater Saviour of his people, and of so many of mankind a''s faithfully turn to him.
