Description
Excerpt from The Indian Rebellion: Its Causes and Results; In a Series of Letters From the Rev. Alexander Duff, D.D., LL. D.; Calcutta
Humanly Speaking, and under God, every thing will depend on our Government being able promptly to retake the fort of Delhi, and in?ict summary chastisement on the mutineer - murderers there. The Governor of Agra is much trusted in, from his firmness and good sense and he reports that Agra is safe. Oude, happily, is under Sir Henry Lawrence, the most prompt and energetic officer perhaps in the Company''s service. He has already quashed mutiny there in a style which if our Government had only imitated months ago, there would have been an end of the whole matter now.
