Description
So great had been the influx of people into that south-western section that two years and four months after Alabama had become a Territory a political convention prepared a state constitution This gathering was held on July 5, 1819 in the temporary state capital, Huntsville, the seat of Madison county, located between the Tennessee River and the southern boundry of the state of Tennessee. Representatives were pres ent from the then existing twenty-two counties of Alabama, namely, Antaga.
