Since the services of many of those who originally surveyed the ground were no longer available, when the Memoir was written, some re-examination Of their areas became necessary. Accordingly Dr. Crampton visited and examined the area between Dunnet and Thurso, and Mr. Carruthers re-examined the district between Achanarras and Thurso and thence westwards by the coast to Reay. Dr. Peach and Dr. Horne have prepared a chapter on the glaciation Of the whole county, besides describing the solid geology Of the areas which they mapped.
