Fifteen miles southeast of the lake, near the foot hills of the Wasatch range of the Rocky Mountains, lies the great city of Zion, or Salt Lake City.
Utah valley lies thirty miles south of this city. It is a valley about sixty miles in length by about twenty-nve in width. A beautiful fresh water lake, twelve by thirty-five miles, stretches along and lies close to the western mountains which rise rather abruptly from the water'' 5 edger until'' they gain an elevation of from one to two thou sand feet above the surface of the lake; which is two hundred feet in turn above that of Great Salt Lake.
