And in order thati might execute this Work with the utrhofi: Sinceri-ty and T 111th and to the Intent that I might be more able to underttand the Arguments, andto comprehend the true Caufes of the Judgments herein contained, let me inform the Reader that in almot''t all the Cafes which I have undertaken to report, before they came to be a1gued I had Copies of the Records, and took Pains to findy the Points of Law arifing thereupon, fo that oftentimes I was fo much Matter of them, that if I had been put to 1t I was ready to have argued when the hrf''c Man began; and by this Method I was mo1e prepared to underftand and retain the Arguments and the Caufes of the Judgments. And befides this, after I had diawn out my Report at large, and before I had entered it into my Book, I fhewed fuch Cafes and A1 gu ments, as feemed to me to be the moft difficult, and to require the greatett Memory, to fome of the Judges or Serjeants who argued in them, in order to have their Opinion of the Sincerity and Truth of the Report, which being perufed and approved by them, I then entered it into my Book. And further, the Records of the Pleadings, and the Judgments which follow after the Arguments; add great Credit to the Report, and help to affure the Reader that he may rely upon any Point of Law.
