The charge of treasonable apathy, in not moving to the King''s assistance, so generally levelled against their commander, Lord Home, melts into thin air, and we see in him a wise and gallant soldier, maintaining to the last a front to the foe, covering the retreat of a shattered army, and defending the Scottish frontier with a spear which was not shivered,'' with a shield which was not broken.''
