Description
The photos were passed by his wife to Tony's friend, Dave Goddard, who shared Tony's enthusiasm for researching Southampton pubs. With local historian, Jim Brown, they bring back memories of the enjoyable times spent by pub locals in various hostelries. Social and changing attitudes, legislation, such as the ban on smoking, and other factors, have resulted in far too many public houses vanishing and not replaced. Many buildings have been demolished and replaced by new structures and others have undergone a complete change of use whilst retaining the former structure. Sotonians will enjoy a trawl through the pages and former casual or regular patrons will have a pleasant trip down memory lane, recalling the enjoyable times spent having a drink with family or friends in a congenial atmosphere.
