The digital edition of all books may be viewed on our website before purchase. American author Countess Anna de Bremont published Sonnets and Love Poems in 1892. She dedicated this anthology to her deceased husband, Count Leon de Bremont, from whom she got her title.
It appears that her distinguished French spouse died early in her adult life, leaving her to wax romantic about his memory and use sonnets as her vehicle in unloading her grief and loneliness at his passing. But rather than think that this volume is nothing but a collection of mournful sonnets by a sentimental widow, consider the other poetic treasures that lay printed on the other pages of this book. The other short literary pieces are wistfully romantic, decidedly passionate, and are infused with a youthful, womanly charm – as if the author has never known grief.
Countess de Bremont, who counted Oscar Wilde as one of her friends, does not only write of romantic fantasies and musings. She also dedicates a few verses to Christmas, her mother, some of her friends, and to characters and people she have met or observed.
