Description
Horatio has no desire to be a hero. In fact, he is quite certain that heroism is unhealthy, badly paid, and usually fatal.
As the self-proclaimed biggest coward in the galaxy, Horatio enjoys life in a genetically engineered 40th-century Earth paradise where humanity has spread across the stars and almost every inconvenience has been civilised into extinction. Unfortunately, paradise is not as safe as it looks, and the AI that rules humanity’s interstellar empire has decided Horatio may be exactly the wrong man for a very dangerous job.
To survive, Horatio must gather a team almost as unsuitable as he is: a psychotic Martian warrior, a robot who believes it has a connection to Sherlock Holmes, a beautiful genetically enhanced assassin, a scientist with a computer for a brain, and a millennia-old clone with more history than anyone should have to carry.
Together, this unlikely band must face a threat large enough to endanger not merely their lives, but the future of humanity among the stars. The odds are absurd. The mission is impossible. The crew is, at best, alarming.
Six Against the Stars is a fast, funny and wildly imaginative science fiction adventure from Stephen Hunt, blending classic space opera, galactic danger, eccentric heroes, rogue intelligence, far-future absurdity and the ancient dramatic truth that sometimes the universe has to be saved by the people least qualified to do it.
It is six against the galaxy. Six against the stars.
