As it would be an unheard of circumstance for a traveller, who has doubled both Capes, who has passed over places scarce known unto men, not to favour the world with an account of what he has met with, I shall to use a colonial expression, chance it, and trust myself to your mercy.
If you meet with any peculiarities, whichmay sound uncouth, or strange; be pleased to remember that, though I have often been in the presence of Royalty, the courts I have visited were only composed of sa vages, and blackfellows; and that, had it not been for my anxiety to oblige you, I should have tarried awhile to rearrange my scattered reminiscences of Australia, amid the elegancies of my earlier home.
