Description
In 1886 a group of young writers — Paul Adam, Jean Moreas, Felix Feneon among them — published this mock directory of literary and artistic Paris: an alphabetical roll of the famous and the obscure, each entry a few lines of praise, malice or nonsense. It is a document of the exact moment when Symbolism was forming, written from inside by the people who were forming it.Feneon's hand is visible throughout, and the volume is read today as one of the liveliest sources on the Parisian avant-garde of the 1880s.This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1886 Paris edition, reproduced in full from a library copy. The historical text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
