Description

Excerpt from Permanganate of Potassium: Its Action and Uses

The prime objection of contemporary writers is, that permanganate is so quickly decomposed on coming into contact with organic matter, that its powers must then cease. I have, however, given rea sons for supposing that the diffusibility of this salt is so rapid, that it has some action on the blood. For example: When used locally for the bite of a venom ous serpent, the poison is destroyed, notwithstanding the organic matter in which it is enclosed. Before discussing its actions and uses, its physical and chemical qualities should be stated.
