Description
Excerpt from On the Gorilla Trail
Our Objective was a tiny triangle in the heart of Africa. It was bounded by three volcanic mountains and was a high plateau of bamboo forest, eternally cold, eternally clouded, eternally rainy.
It was there that Mr. Akeley was going to find gorillas for a group for the American Museum of Natural History of New York, and we were going with Mr. Akeley because we wanted to see Africa, as well as gorillas, and the way to this triangle was through one of the loveliest and least known parts of the conti nent, the Eastern Congo. No Americans had yet been in the country to which we were going.
