Description
Pascual de Gayangos (1809-1897) spent his life recovering what Muslim Spain had written and what the archives had buried, and no nineteenth-century scholar did more to make Arabic Spain legible to European readers. This short text belongs to that work. Volumes of this kind circulated among a handful of specialists — this copy passed through the library of George Ticknor, the Boston Hispanist — and they are the reason a literature that had been effectively invisible for three centuries re-entered the record at all. This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1842 edition, reproduced in full from a library copy. The historical text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
