Another leads directly into the square enclosure marked twenty acres, which has an entrance at each corner, and also at the northeast and southwest sides, the latter having two covered ways to the enclosure. All the gateways or entran ces are protected by small mounds inside, as in the case of the octagon. The Ohio canal passes through this w ork, and so also does an extensively traveled State rod and the portion of this square enclosure whose banks hav e not been thus obliterated has been cultivated for at least half a century so that its high banks or walls, which, probably were never very high, are now barely traceable.
