Description

Excerpt from Mont Pelee and the Tragedy of Martinique: A Study of the Great Catastrophes of 1902, With Observations and Experiences in the Field

The illustrations that accompany the work are largely from photographs taken by the author himself, and many of them represent, in a way that has probably not been possible before, the consecutive stages in the paroxysmal eruption of a very active volcano. Other photographs were obtained through the kind permission of Messrs. Under wood Underwood, of New York, whose representative in Martinique was for a while associated with the author in his studies of Mont Pelée.
