The first study directed specifically at the question Of change in mental organization was that Of Garrett, Bryan and Perl who tested 9 12 and 15-year-old children with six memory and four non-memory tests. They found that with increases in age the abili ties measured tended to become more and more specific, as Shown by the decrease in the average intercorrelations Of groups of tests and by multiple factor analysis Of the correlations.
