Por una mala inteligencia entre los jefes aliados, el ejército argentino marchó por la derecha del Be llaco, sin que, debido a esta circunstancia, pudiese recibir ninguna protección del brasilero en caso de un ataque repentino de parte de los paraguayos. Al Mariscal López no podía ocultarse el designio del enemigo al ejecutar aquel movimiento, y esta virtud, no deja de ser extraño que no haya hecho nada absolutamente para entorpecer aquella mar cha que se prestaba á un golpe, dado el orden en que se hacía. Un ataque a la columna argentina en esa ocasión, hubiera producido tal vez desmoralización entre los aliados, cuya consecuencia hubiera sido funesta á sus planes.
