Description
Spain administered the Philippines from Madrid through the Ministerio de Ultramar, and one of the things a colonial ministry does is count. This report accounts for the public forests of the islands — the timber cut, the species, the yields, the revenue and the terms on which concessions were worked. It is dry by design and useful for exactly that reason: it is a measured description of a tropical forest economy in the 1870s, written before the twentieth century made most of the record of that economy retrospective. This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1876 edition, reproduced in full from a library copy. The historical text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
