He Vice mull be fet up very firmly that it {halte not, and {land upright with its Chap: parallel or range with your Work-beech 5 becaufe filtrate filing is a great piece ofgood Workmanfhip in 3 Smith 5 and {hould the Vice not fiandupright and range with-the 'work bench, the Cbapr pinching upon two fquare fides,would make the t0p tide of your work either lean towards you or from you 5 and conf?quently you filing (as a good Workman ought to do) upon the ?at or Horizon-u tal Plain oflyour work, would take offmoreof that Angle or Edge which, rifes higher than the Plain,and lefs ofi'that Edge that lies lower than the Plains fo that one Angle'being higher or lower than the Other, your work infiead of being filed Square, would be filed Squirewife, when you (hall have filed all/its ?at fides,'and that more or lefs according to the leaning ofthe Chap; of your Vice. AA the Face, hath its two ends lie in a firaight Line with the-middle of its Face or Plain. B the Chap: mull be cut with a Ballard Cut, and very well temperfd. C the Screw Pin cut with a fquare firongworm.' the Nut or Screw Box hath alfo a Square Worm, and is bra zed into the round Box. 3 E the Spring mull be made of good Steel, and'very well temper'd 5, where note, that the wider the two ends of the Spring (land afund'er, the wider it throws the Chap: of the [fire open. F the Foot mufi be liraight,'and therefore will be the firo'nger to bear 'good heavy Blows upon the work fcrewed in the Cbap: of the Free, that it neither bow or tremble.
