Description
Excerpt from Mail by Rail: The Story of the Postal Transportation Service
The purpose of this book is to tell the story of the Postal Transportation (railway Mail) Service, past and present. In particular, it is the story of the unsung and highly trained men who expertly sort your mail and mine on speeding trains, day and night. The author and his collaborator, both of whom have worked in this Service, are eager to portray it so that it will interest everyone who mails a letter - as well as the railfan, the r.p.o. Enthusiast or philatelic collector, and the postal transportation clerk himself. Above all, we hope thereby to improve working conditions within the Service and contribute to its personnel''s welfare, as well as to more efficient postal services in the public interest.
