Treatment for LGV is highly effective when initiated early. The standard therapy involves a longer course of antibiotics, most commonly doxycycline, taken for about three weeks. It is important for patients to complete the full course of treatment, even if symptoms improve before the medication is finished. Sexual partners should also be notified, tested, and treated if necessary to prevent reinfection and further spread.

Prevention of LGV centers on practicing safe sex, including consistent and correct condom use, regular screening for sexually transmitted infections, and open communication with sexual partners.
