For this reason I have not only used the rich treasury of the Howick Papers themselves, and the documents relative to my subject in Holland House and Lambton Castle, most kindly put at my dis i tion by Lord Ilchester and, Lord Durham, but I hire studied - among the Additional mss. In the British Museum and amon the Home C?ice Papers - the currents on which t e ship of Reform was launched by Grey in the period of the first French Revolution, and the all-powerful but dangerous ?ood-tide on which he brought the vessel into harbour in 1 8 32.
