Excerpt from Libro de Apolonio, Vol. 1: An Old Spanish Poem; Text And Introduction
In the preparation of an edition of the Libro de Apolonio I have had, at various epochs, the hearty assistance of the Spanish Seminary of the Johns Hopkins University. To the members of that seminary I dedicate this volume as a record of their share in its composition and in recognition of the inspiration the teacher may receive from his pupils. The Royal Spanish Academy, R. Menéndez Pidal, K. Pietsch, and H. R. Lang have given valuable aid in many ways. A. G. Sola linde and A. Castro have examined the Escorial manuscript and furnished important items that were lacking. G. Gruen baum has rendered scholarly services in connection with the proofs. To all of these I take pleasure in expressing my grat itude and indebtedríess. To R. Menéndez Pidal, however, my obligations are of an exceptional character. I have drawn unsparingly upon his time and his fund of knowledge; his giving has been cheerful and the value of his gifts inestimable.
