Nous avions, dès 1886, installé un village destiné à rece voir les esclaves fugitifs; ils étaient placés là en observa tion pendant trois mois au cours desquels leurs maîtres pouvaient les réclamer. Si le réfugié ne pouvait prouver qu'il avait été l'objet de mauvais traitements, il était rendu à son maître, qui le réclamait pendant cette période; dans le cas contraire, il était libéré et demeurait comme tel au dit village de Liberté.
