Description
Lauso is a five-act verse tragedy by the Portuguese priest and poet Henrique José de Castro, doctor of theology at Coimbra, built on the Virgilian episode of Lausus and the tyrant Mezentius and dedicated to the Bishop of Beja. A rare example of the neoclassical tragedy of late eighteenth-century Portugal, it was printed in Lisbon by Simão Thaddeo Ferreira in 1790. This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1790 edition, reproduced in full from a library copy. The historical text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
