Description
Andrés Piquer (1711-1772) held that medicine had gone wrong by preferring systems to observation, and that the cure was to go back to Hippocrates — not as an authority to be quoted but as a method to be practised. This third volume of his Spanish Hippocrates carries the translation together with his own commentary, and the commentary is the point: it is where an eighteenth-century physician measures the ancient case histories against what he has seen at the bedside himself. The second edition, Madrid 1781. This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1781 Madrid edition, reproduced in full from a library copy. The historical text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
