Description

“As for Jacqueline’s own retellings: delight in their kick and terseness, their lyrical moments, their sense of mystery, their kindness.”

- Kevin Crossley-Holland

These nineteen tales are rooted deep in the Lancashire landscape. Skrikers, headless dobbies, meddling boggarts and spectral cats stalk these pages, along with those who encounter them. An old woman plots her revenge on a supernatural cow, a tailor plays the devil at his own game and the shape-shifting daughter of an aristocrat learns to fly with the curlews and run with the deer.

Jacqueline Harris is a writer, storyteller and theatre-maker, exploring the places where story, people and landscape meet.

This collection includes ten linocuts by the Dutch artist and sculptor, Marjan Wouda. Marjan lives in Pennine Lancashire. Through her work, often inspired by stories, she explores what it is to be human. Her public sculptures can be found across the UK and further afield.
