Description
Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba reorganised the Spanish infantry, beat the French at Cerignola and Garigliano, and in doing so made Spain the first power of Europe for a century and a half. Paolo Giovio (1483-1552) was an Italian bishop and historian who wrote about the men of his own time from close range and with a sharp eye for character; his life of the Great Captain is the earliest full account, and it is written from the losing side's vantage, which sharpens it further. This is the Spanish version of 1553. This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1553 edition, reproduced in full from a library copy. The historical text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
