The many applications for a book of Urdu idioms induced me to undertake this little work. It has been compiled from various sources but chie?y from the Urdu dictionary F arbang-i Asa?yya. Idioms that are not fairly common have been omit ted. My thanks are due to shams'1-'ulam5. Mu hammad Yfisuf Ja'fari, I$_h§n Bahadur, Head Maw lavi of the Board of Examiners for constant help during the preparation of the work for the press.
To facilitate reference a very full English index is appended.
