Als ich im Jahre 1868 in der Madrasa von Cal outta bei meinem seitdem leider gleich so manchem Anderen nur zu fruh dahingeschiedenen Freunde Blochmann sass, und jener vortref?iche Mann, der doch mehr vom Gepräge eines nüchternen Sprachforschers, als von dem Wesen eines begei sterten Schwärmers besass, mir uber Akbar Aus kunft gab, da empfand ich, wie Goethe es aus druckt, dass das Beste, was wir an der Geschichte haben, der Enthusiasmus ist, den sie in uns er regt.
