In recording the names of those to whom the Author is indebted for aid in the following Work, he must. Particularly notice those Of his late lamented friends Dr. Leach, formerly Chief Zoologist in the British Museum, and General Richard Bingham, of Melcombe, Dorsetshire. The first Of these, with that noble liberality for which he was prominently distinguished, - although engaged with a similar work at the time the Author was preparing his First Edition, - threw Open his treasures for his use, and otherwise aided him as far as possible in his investigations.
