These came in after the war of independence and got land along the line of frontier, from the Eastern Provinces to t Lakes, and penetrated back to the banks of the Rideau and Mississippi to the Carp. The valley along the north shore of t tawa rier is beautiful lands but it is only an average of six or miles, between the river and the Laurentian range of mountains. Of this range the land is good, but in small patches very broken, settled, in a word, a wide sea of mountains and v alleys, with lak streams innumerable, as far as the country has yet been explor known.
