During the summer of 1661, he resolved to visit the Hurons, who had ?ed eastward from the Sioux of Minnesota, and encamped amid the marshes of Northern Wisconsin. Some Frenchmen, who had been among the Hurons, in vain attempted to dis suade him from the journey. To their entreaties he replied, I must go, if it cost me my life. I can not surfer souls to perish on the ground of saving the bodily life of a miserable old man like myself. What! Are we to serve God only when there is nothing to suffer, and no risk of life?
