Excerpt from History of Baptists in Michigan
Later the President of the Convention appointed as His torian Mrs. M. E. D. Trowbridge.
The following were appointed as the Historical Commit tee: J. S. Boyden, Z. Grenell, A. G. Slocum, John Fletcher, J. C. Rooney, J. T. Hammond, W. W. Beman, A. H. F inn, R. B. Loomis.
The importance of gathering and preserving facts pertain ing to the history of Baptists in Michigan was discussed and emphasized in the Christian Herald for many years. A few pioneers responded and their reminiscences were published from time to time. While the articles were of great interest and had wide reading, no systematic plan to cover the entire field of State denominational progress was formulated.
Again, while newspaper articles are most interesting aria valuable, few readers preserve periodicals of this Class, and when bound, the volumes are Often so cumbersome as to be unwieldy, and furthermore are inaccessible to the general pub lic. The files of the Herald have however, been invaluable in the preparation of this history.
