1. Conocimientos geográficos hace cuatro siglos y medio. Hace cuatro siglos y medio los pueblos civili zados del antiguo continente tenían un Conocimiento muy limitado acerca del mundo. Creían que la tierra era plana, y no redonda. No se había llegado a conocer la mitad de los países del mundo. Europa, gran parte de Asia y la parte norte de Africa formaban las únicas tierras conocidas. Los mapas existentes entonces eran muy inexactos. No se sabía nada del gran continente de América, ni de Puerto Rico, Santo Domingo, Cuba y demás Antillas. En América no había, como ahora, habitantes de las razas blanca y negra. Aun se suponía que las partes poco conocidas de Europa, Asia y África estaban habitadas por horribles monstruos y animales fabulosos.
